This volume, like the three previous editions, is designed to tell the story of human reproduction and the care of the baby by numerous carefully selected illustrations and a minimum of discussion. The prenatal period is discussed with particular emphasis on the physiological, psychological, and emotional factors in pregnancy. Preparation for childbirth in the form of education for the parents is emphasized. To this end, exercises for the mother, the growth and development of the baby, the mechanism of its birth, and the delivery are profusely illustrated and described. More than half of the book is devoted to preparations for the baby, its care in the hospital and at home during the first few weeks of its life, and growth and development during its early years.
