This book is largely built around an excellent description of the anatomy of the region which carries the common duct, the hepatic artery and the portal vein. As every one knows, there is a great individual variation in these structures and in their relations one to another. Every young surgeon and some older ones who have to operate in this region will be grateful to Dr. Behrend for his many anatomic illustrations based on experience gained through years of dissections and operations.
There is much more in the book on the surgical treatment of gallbladder disease, on its complications and postoperative difficulties and also on surgical diseases of the pancreas.
