This has been regarded as an outstanding textbook in urology since it was first published in 1914. The author was one of the most competent urologists of his time, and his thorough knowledge and wide experience are well reflected in the pages of this book. The present edition maintains the general excellence of the original volumes. Although the editor has attempted to bring the material up to date, it is evident that many of the recent developments in urology have not been included. It will be noted that but few of the references given at the end of the chapters were dated after 1935. This deficiency is apparent in the chapter on genitourinary infection and its treatment. There should be a more extensive discussion on the use of sulfonamides and the antibiotic preparations now in common usage. The chapter on the various methods of prostatectomy is inadequate.
