This book provides the lay reader and his physician with an intelligible discussion of the role fear and anxiety occupy in everyday life. In a world through which fear stalks unchecked by enlightenment and reason, there is substantial need for an easily understood, rationally plotted book that will help dissipate the anxieties that beset many men and women on a variety of medical fronts—chronic disease, pain, blindness, deafness, surgical operations on young and old, pregnancy, and childbirth, to list an outstanding few. A leisurely reading of this book should help doctors understand their patients better and patients understand themselves.
