This text was written to serve as a practical rather than a theoretic textbook. The subject material is covered in an elementary and superficial way. Many of the chapters are out of date, as for example, chapter 23, entitled "The Paratyphoid Group." Approximately a page in fine print at the end of appendix A is devoted to the subject of bacterial warfare. This textbook contains many points of practical interest which should appeal to the student at the subprofessional level. The lack of reference material is a serious omission from the professional point of view.
