This little volume is a compilation of the reports made on the heart and circulation at the 1946 Sports Physicians' Conference held at Lausanne, Switzerland. Previous to World War II, a good deal was heard about the European sports physicians and the interest abroad in study and research on the physiologic results of sports activity. Evidently in postwar years there is renewed interest among physicians in this subject. Included in the symposium are papers on functions of the heart and circulation in reference to participation in sports, cardiologic considerations in sports medicine, electrocardiographic changes in connection with continued physical effort, ergometric and spirometric measurement of reaction to exercise, suggestions on the examination of school children and a supplement on research in sports medicine.
