This is the 10th in the series of volumes on progress in neurology and psychiatry edited by Dr. E. A. Spiegel. The 70 or more contributors cover the literature of 1954 on practically all aspects of neurology and psychiatry, including neurosurgery and psychology. More than 14,000 papers were reviewed. On this basis, the volume can be said to be comprehensive. There is, however, a wide variation in the quality of the different chapters. Some authors have attempted to analyze critically the significant contributions of the year in their field of interest, while others have felt obligated to mention every publication without presenting or discussing the facts contained in the more important publications. The volume is of special value to all physicians and research workers in the field of neurology and psychiatry in that it gives a general picture of the publications in these fields; however, in certain aspects of these
