This edition of this widely employed textbook of entomology lives up to its deserved reputation as a systematic presentation of that branch of applied biology. The shortening of the main title to "Medical Entomology" from "Medical and Veterinary Entomology" used in earlier editions should not be construed as a lessening in consideration of the animal aspects of the science. Indeed, the author continues to emphasize the importance of the relation of all forms of life to insect vectors in the transmission of disease, so that essential, fundamental concepts are provided for the student. The book retains the original scheme of presenting details of certain experiments to illustrate the methods of investigation that can be employed to expand knowledge of the subject.
The new edition has been brought as nearly up to date as possible without altering the general plan of the contents. The free use of quotations and previously collated
