This book reviews the general subject of life and the structure of living things in the light of the staggering wealth of information offered by modern science. The author has an admirable grasp of his material, and he discusses it with most commendable accuracy and concreteness. He sometimes finds it necessary to refer to things that cannot be explained in the limited compass of this volume, but this should not diminish the inspiration which such works often bring to youthful readers, and the physician may welcome these refreshing allusions to subjects to which he was introduced in his study of the basic sciences.
