Abstract

The Council on Medical Education and Hospitals presents in this issue its twenty-fifth Annual Report on Internships and Residencies. This report summarizes data on approved programs in 844 hospitals conducting intern training and in 1,120 hospitals offering residency training in the specialties. The report with lists of approved hospitals is appearing at this time rather than in the spring as in years past to provide more current information to prospective applicants at the time they are seeking appointments.

Two innovations have been made this year in the lists of approved internships and residencies. In addition to the geographical list of hospitals approved for intern training, the Internship and Residency Number this year presents a classification of internships by type of service: rotating, mixed, straight or special. The residency section has also been enlarged to include a geographical list of hospitals approved for residency training together with a résumé of the
