This edition has omitted the section dealing with carbohydrate metabolism and diabetes mellitus in order to keep the volume within a reasonable length and because this subject needs separate treatment due to its complexity. Section 1 deals with the hypophysis, section 2 with the adrenals, section 3 with the gonads (including a special chapter on the virilizing syndrome), section 4 with the thyroid, and section 5 with the thymus and parathyroids. There are no chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, or 34 (no break in the page numbers, however), and chapter 35, the appendix, is devoted to a detailed description of laboratory tests of endocrine function. It appears to be complete and accurate. The book is well written and has a voluminous bibliography. One minor criticism would be the amount of space devoted to case histories. The book should be a worthwhile addition to the library of any endocrinologist.
