Abstract

This book is an up-to-date, easily readable, and comprehensive new work that covers essentially all aspects of pediatric surgery. Its author is an authority in the field; his work on megacolon is especially noteworthy. This book will undoubtedly be regarded as a standard textbook on this subject. The volume is beautifully illustrated with diagrams, photographs, and roentgenograms of most of the subjects covered. There are, in addition, numerous tables, formulas, and charts covering most aspects of pediatric surgical care. Most of the discussions include anatomic and diagnostic considerations and details of preoperative care, anesthesia, operative technique, postoperative management, and effectiveness of the management. The details of a number of relatively minor surgical manipulations, such as bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, insertion of a chest tube, and sigmoidoscopy, are aspects of this book especially valuable for the intern or resident.
