Dr. Lederberg Gives Nobel Lecture.—
Joshua Lederberg, Ph.D., head, department of genetics, Stanford University School of Medicine, co-winner of the 1958 Nobel Prize for Medicine, delivered his Nobel Prize Lecture in Stockholm May 29 on "Genetic Recombination." Dr. Lederberg will give other lectures in Scandinavia and elsewhere while abroad, and will visit former colleagues in laboratories at Copenhagen, Milan, Paris, and London.
Dr. Kaplan Named Cancer Award Recipient.—
Dr. Henry S. Kaplan was named the recipient of the second annual award "for meritorious investigation by a scientist under the age of 45, in the field of cancer," awarded by the Ann Langer Cancer Research Foundation of Chicago. Over $115,000 has been contributed by the foundation to the University of Chicago, Michael Reese Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago and Hebrew University in Israel for cancer research work.
