Abstract

The authors are well-known investigators in the field of hematology. This monograph is the outgrowth of an exhibit shown at the International Congress of Hematology in Paris where it was very popular. The characteristic presentation of an exhibit is retained: there are many tables and charts in which the essential features of clinical hematological entities are summarized. This feature has been used effectively to great advantage. The result is economy of space and admirable lucidity of presentation. The whole field of hematology is presented in five sections, the first of which is devoted to general hematology. It includes chapters on the general characteristics of blood, blood cells, hemoglobin and iron, immunohematology, hemostasis, and effects of ionizing radiation. Diseases of the erythrocytes and leukocytes and hemorrhagic diseases are covered in the following sections. The last section deals with diagnostic studies. The colored tables are excellent.
