This is a new edition of a work which has served well the needs of medical students and practitioners throughout the British Commonwealth for over 35 years. The editor, with the assistance of 12 contributors, has extensively revised the previous edition. This is essentially a textbook, and as such it is a fine example of that great desideratum of all textbooks, namely, clarity. This has been achieved by orderly arrangement of the subject matter, by a simple, concise style of writing, and by a wealth of informative illustrations, tables, and charts. Medical students should find this book easy and interesting reading. From the viewpoint of the practitioner, the management of the various pathological conditions surveyed is sufficiently detailed and specific to provide valuable reference material.
Although the basic approach to the subject is the same as in previous editions, special consideration is given to preventive measures as an integral part
