This compilation of the reports presented at the scientific conference of the Institute of Experimental Pathology and Therapy of Cancer of the Academy of Medical Sciences, USSR, in March, 1957, is dedicated in honor of the 70th birthday of Prof. A. D. Timofeyevskiy. It contains the results of the research carried out in the division of the etiology and pathogenesis of tumors, which he directed, and articles written by his former students and colleagues. Timofeyevskiy was particularly interested in the role of viruses in the origin of tumors and used electron microscopy in his studies. These studies revealed the presence of virus-like formations during various stages of cultivation of extracts from human tumors. This volume should be of particular interest to pathologists.
