This is the second edition of a book published as part of the "Physical Medicine Library" series. The chapter on "Posture and Its Re-education" has been rewritten. Another chapter, "Gait and Gait Training," has been added. A new chapter titled "Brief Isometric Exercise" replaces Appendix I. There are no extensive changes in the new edition.
The first half of the book has to do with the basic principles of therapeutic exercise. Several chapters discuss various types and uses of exercise and apparatus required. There are chapters on kinetic occupational therapy, testing of muscle strength, and other tests and measurements, such as measurement of articular movement. One chapter is devoted to the somewhat controversial subject, "proprioceptive facilitation in therapeutic exercise." The last portion of the book deals with the uses of exercise in disease entities or conditions. The new chapter on "Brief Isometric Exercise" reviews recent research on this subject. It
