To the Editor:—
My Egyptian friends are displeased with the facetious tone of your editorial "Of Belly" (199:753, 1967). Surely the valiant effort made by their revered head of state on behalf of public decency deserves more sympathetic treatment. One of our local danseuses du ventre who saw the light is now doing only the gavotte and minuet. While wearing what virtually is a nun's habit, she still manages to elicit a few belly laughs. Our only other Egyptian belly dancer gave up her specialty, and has now joined the ranks of the topless go-go girls.I wonder if this sort of thing would be stomached in the land of the Pharaohs.
