Intra-abdominal masses, particularly those arising from the liver and spleen, may project into the lower part of the chest and thus necessitate an extensive diagnostic work-up. The use of liver and spleen isotope scans early in the evaluation of such cases will frequently provide the correct diagnosis and save significant time and cost.
