This book is a delight.

When a volume entitled Clinical Endocrinology I, was published in 1960, with E. B. Astwood as editor, the use of the Roman numeral implied that the book was the beginning of a series. This meant something to look forward to, for Clinical Endocrinology I had a special flavor not to be found in specialized textbooks. The editors of the second volume point out, with pride which is certainly pardonable, that "copies of the former... are to be found in tatters on the shelves of libraries." We checked our own copy and, sure enough, it was indeed in tatters. This could indicate simply a poor job of book-making by Messrs. Grune and Stratton. Much more likely, it reflects the genuine and lasting usefulness of the book.

Clinical Endocrinology II more than matches the expectations which have accumulated in the intervening eight years. Like its predecessor, it
