To the Editor.—
I entirely agree with the article "Help Stamp Out Mandatory Continuing Education" (233:797, 1975).I practice solo in a small community, and except for attending the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, I do not have more than cursory communication with other orthopedic surgeons during the course of the year. I do no teaching and have not been inside a medical school since I graduated in 1949. I just took the self-assessment examination given by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and scored in the 99th percentile. I keep up to date by reading and also publish a few articles of my own.The time it takes to travel to and from conventions or meetings, and the wasted time at meetings, can be much more suitably utilized in your own library. Attending fully what I believe is the one best meeting of the year
