To the Editor.—
In my editorial on exercise testing (234:745, 1975), I did not indicate the work of David Scherf, the pioneer whose work not only preceded that of Dr Master, but who also worked out a more scientific work challenge. Dr Scherf introduced the exercise test for the evaluation of carotid disease in 1932. A review of this appeared in Ergebnisse der Gesamten Medizin (20:237, 1935), with later reference in the American Heart Journal (43:927, 1952). I think that recognition is due to this contribution of Dr Scherf, who has already done so much pioneering in the fields of arrhythmias and clinical cardiology.
