Evaluation of a Hypocholesterolemic Agent: Dextrothyroxine Sodium (Choloxin)

JAMA. 1969;208(6):1014-1015. doi:10.1001/jama.1969.03160060084012

Dextrothyroxine sodium lowers the level of serum cholesterol in most euthyroid patients. Untoward effects due to the metabolic action of this agent, which usually can be avoided by careful adjustment of dosage, include increased frequency or severity of anginal attacks, cardiac arrhythmias, nervousness, insomnia, and hyperthermia.
