In vitro tests for cell-mediated immunity were conducted in a group of patients and physicians whose histories suggested the possibility of hypersensitivity to halothane. The results of tests for lymphocyte transformation in these subjects were not significantly different from the results in a group of normal controls. These findings, therefore, have failed to confirm previously reported work, in which it was claimed that positive lymphocyte transformation was demonstrated in ten of 15 patients with alleged halothane hepatitis.
