An Expression of Thanks to Our Loyal Reviewers

The holiday season at the year's end is traditionally observed by greeting friends with cards, calls, and visits and by recalling the many favors and blessings that friendship has bestowed on us. We of the editorial staff of The Journal count our friends in the many hundreds, and we are especially grateful to those of you who have served as consultants and reviewers.

Reviewing a scientific manuscript is a time-consuming and often difficult chore, yet our reviewers do this for us without special recognition or compensation. We have seriously considered publishing the names of those who have reviewed papers in the preceding 12 months, but we are afraid that in such a list, we may unwittingly omit those who may deserve the greatest credit.
