Abstract

To the Editor.—  I wish to add my support to the concern expressed by the National Academy of Sciences about the harassment of Andrei Sakharov (Science 181:2, 1973). I am sure numerous other physicians feel the same way about this issue as I do. It is necessary that the Soviet people know that Sakharov stands as a symbol of men's fight for intellectual freedom. The scientific community must take a united stand against all institutions that violate the basic canons of human ethics.
