This excellent monograph is part of the collection of Cardiovascular Clinics edited by A. N. Brest. Dr Spodick is both the editor and one of the 27 authors.
The clinical and morphological aspects of these diseases are presented by Spodick and Roberts, Spray, and Dunn and Rickengergen. Tamponade and constriction are discussed by Shabetai, Wise and Conti, and Kuhn; viral and nonviral diseases, by Burch and by Gleckman. The postpericardiotomy syndrome is presented by Engle and her co-workers. The last chapters deal with uremic pericarditis (Conty et al), pericarditis of rheumatologic diseases (Cohen and Canoso), congenital alterations (Nasser), and surgery of the pericardium (Harken). Radiological and echocardiographic methods of study are discussed by Hipona and Pacedes and by Shah and Nanda, respectively.
