Federal Standards for Diagnostic X-ray Equipment

Abstract

To the Editor.—  The federal performance standard for diagnostic x-ray equipment was published in its final form on Aug 15, 1972, and becomes effective on August 1 of this year. Some statements in a recent letter (227:203, 1974), for example, were apparently made on the basis of earlier proposed policies concerning the assembly and reassembly of x-ray equipment, which have since been revised.Mr. Nields stated that, under the federal standard, uncertified diagnostic x-ray equipment currently in use may not be resold or otherwise reintroduced into commerce after Aug 1, 1974. Under the revised proposal, uncertified x-ray equipment may continue to be resold without upgrading to meet the standard as late as Aug 1, 1979.
