Several errors occurred in the ORIGINAL CONTRIBUTION "Propranolol in the Treatment of Essential Hypertension" published in the May 23 issue of The Journal (237:2303-2310, 1977). In Table 2 on page 2305, the blood pressure values, both systolic and diastolic, recorded for auscultation vs arteriosonde were interchanged. (The arteriosonde readings were consistently lower than the auscultation readings.) The Figure should be cited on page 2306, column 3, line 18, instead of on page 2305, column 2, line 17. Line 47, column 3, page 2309, should be corrected to state that the recent claim that reserpine induces breast cancer now appears to be unproved (not disproved). On page 2310, lines 34 and 35 of column 2 should state that the combination (of propranolol plus hydralazine) and propranolol alone (not propranolol-hydrochlorothiazide) were less effective than the standard regimen.
