To the Editor.—
I was somewhat surprised to see the recent report on "Dialysis Elbow: Olecranon Bursitis From Long-Term Hemodialysis" reported by Cruz and Shah (238:243, 1977).The authors state that to their knowledge this type of bursitis in long-term dialysis had not been previously reported. Furthermore, the authors do not mention the well-known association of calcific tendinitis owing to hydroxyapatite crystal deposition disease in patients on hemodialysis. Thompson et al (203:122, 1968) reported somewhat similar patients. For more recent review of this well-known phenomenon, I would refer the authors or interested readers to the article by Irby and his colleagues.1Surely this common phenomenon must be known to the excellent rheumatologists at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit
