Abstract

Famine still threatens the world— with no ready solution in sight  Worldwide efforts to match food production with nutritional needs will be faced with awesome challenges, a number of nutrition experts told the recent Western Hemisphere Nutrition Congress IV.Z.I. Sabry, PhD, president of Nutrition Research Consultants Ltd, Toronto, suggested global efforts must include reduced competition of humans and animals for food, greater use of plants, improved technology, reclamation of more land for farming, and modification of the eating habits of many of the world's people.Two officials—one from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Washington, DC, and the other from the Ford Foundation, New York City—agreed that some governments, particularly in developing nations, face increasingly painful choices in using land for either export or domestic food crops.And a University of Minnesota professor of agriculture and applied economics, Willard W.
