Abstract

To the Editor.—  I would like to add another case history to Dr. Hussey's "Cause of Death" (229:75, 1974).A 20-year-old Texas woman was flown to Los Angeles in 1972 by a planned-parenthood affiliate for a saline abortion; two days later she died. The coroner's report signed her out as death due to gangrene of the right ovary. The coroner's inquest jury found that there was evidence of negligence in postabortion care, and called her death accidental. The true cause of death was legal abortion.The point I'm trying to make is that liberal abortion enthusiasts have, for years, been trying to sell the public (and the profession) the idea that illegal abortion has been the cause of a high mortality and that legalizing abortion can and does reduce that high mortality significantly.
