A 22-year-old man made an initial recovery from Pseudomonas pseudomallei sepsis resulting from a "drowning" episode. Several weeks later he developed neurological symptoms which were due to focal encephalitis secondary to the same organism. This is the first reported case of a focal central nervous system infection due to P pseudomallei.
