To the Editor.—
I wonder if anyone has considered the possibility of Paget's disease of the bone as the cause of Beethoven's deafness. At postmortem examination his skull was "of great density and a thickness amounting to about half an inch." If he had had this condition, death could conceivably have been due to high output heart failure.
