To the Editor.—  I read with interest the article entitled "Conversion of External Arteriovenous Hemodialysis Shunt to Internal Fistula" (239:1782, 1978). We, too, have had good experience with the conversion of the arterialized high-flow system of a prosthetic arteriovenous shunt to a fistula. We have found that the fistulas could be used immediately after conversion, because the vein had already developed in that its wall had thickened and sufficient dilation had occurred approximately three to five weeks after the initial insertion of the arteriovenous shunt.
