To the Editor.—
I was interested to read of the recent association by Cleary et al (243:148, 1980) of acute cerebellar ataxia with Epstein-Barr virus infection. Their initial listing of neurological complications of infectious mononucleosis omits Reye's syndrome, a complication that we reported several years ago in the pediatric literature.1 Although it is unlikely to manifest itself as cerebellar ataxia, Reye's syndrome should be considered in the differential diagnosis of neurological complications of infectious mononucleosis, particularly in young children.
