Dr Vinay Kumar joins Drs Stanley Robbins and Marcia Angell as author of this third edition of Basic Pathology. The book is 694 pages in length, a reflection of the authors' desire to keep it thin so that it may serve as a basic text for medical and dental students and paramedical personnel. The text is divided into two parts, the first 234 pages being devoted to general pathology, the remainder organized according to the organ system approach. When compared with the second edition, the book appears to have been extensively revised and includes new chapters on genetic diseases, disorders of immunity, and nutritional disorders.

The quality of illustrations is generally good, although the paper used in this printing does not seem to lend itself as well to high-quality illustrations as that used in other Saunders publications. Perhaps this was done as an economy measure. Tables and figures appropriately complement
