To the Editor.—
In reference to the letter by Michael C. Perry, MD (243:1809, 1980), concerning the article by Ong and Pintauro on "Silver Stools" (242:2433, 1979), I would like to attest to the fact that although this condition is scarce in the literature, it is certainly understandable why Ong and Pintauro did not use Sherlock and Summerfield's excellent book Color Atlas of Liver Disease1 in their bibliography. It was simply because the book just happened to be published at the same time this article was written and submitted for publication.By coincidence I was subject to a similar dilemma when attempting to respond to a surgeon's request for current information on this same topic several months ago. Although I conducted a computer search of the current literature in MEDLINE and related data bases and also scanned various textbooks, I was unable to retrieve any current information on this subject.
