To the Editor.—
I was interested in the article "Runner's Trots: Gastrointestinal Disturbances in Runners" (243:1743, 1980), which discussed diarrhea in runners. There is another interesting source of a milder runner's diarrhea. Many runners have been advised that generous doses of vitamin C (1 g/day or more) will lessen musculoskeletal symptoms. Such doses of vitamin C frequently produce diarrhea, the source of which may be unrecognized for a long time.
