To the Editor.—
Riccardi and Felman stated that confirmation of N gonorrhoeae is necessary only in oral infections. However, several publications (242:1653, 1979)1-4 show that N meningitidis has been isolated from sites other than the more common nasopharyngeal area. Therefore, limiting confirmation of the Neisseria sp to those isolated in the oral cavity would preclude the possibility of the identification of the meningococci from the atypical sites.
