To the Editor.—  Concerning the question and the reply to determine residual spleen tissue after traumatic splenectomy (1982;247:2037), the presence of Howell-Jolly bodies in peripheral blood erythrocytes strongly supports the absence of spleen. In the absence of Howell-Jolly bodies, there must be some splenic tissue.
