In Reply.—  We agree with Ms Burtness' comments about the importance of rape crisis centers. Physicians should investigate the availability of such centers in their communities. Unfortunately, rape crisis centers are not available in all areas. If available, the physician should mention the centers to the victim and stress their helpfulness. In addition, many victims may feel uncomfortable sharing their feelings in a group setting and will refuse to participate. In these situations, the ongoing support of the physician, family, and friends is particularly important in aiding the recovery of a rape victim.
