Serum Ferritin Levels and Iron Deficiency

To the Editor.—  Dr Kasper1 states that "the serum ferritin level may be raised by inflammations and infections even in the presence of iron deficiency." Her meaning is not clear. The level may be normal in iron deficiency, but it is never raised above the normal range.
