These two volumes represent a remarkable achievement by 28 authors, nine each from Canada and Europe, seven from the United States, two from South Africa, and one from India. Many are recognized authorities, and the editor, Dr Malcolm D. Silver of London, Ontario, has achieved a uniformly clean, brisk style of short declarative sentences that is quite unusual for such a diverse work.

Many physicians who are not pathologists will find the exposition both educational and highly readable. Pathologists who consult the books will find themselves reacting like clinical physicians, a tribute to the numerous clinicopathologic correlations of autopsy and surgical experiences described. The illustrations are numerous, apt, and of excellent quality. Particularly interesting chapters deal with the pathology of the small coronary arteries, the cardiac conduction system, cardiovascular trauma, tropical and parasitic diseases, endomyocardial biopsies, valve prostheses, pacing, transplantation, and postoperative congenital anomalies.
