An error occurred in the QUESTION AND ANSWER entitled "Paper Bag Treatment of Acute Hyperventilation Syndrome," published in the April 20 issue of The Journal (1984;251:2014). The third sentence of the answer should have read as follows: "The intent of having a symptomatic hyperventilating patient breathe into a paper bag is to elevate acutely the arterial Pco2 and lower the pH and thus alleviate symptoms."
