Since 1975, when the first edition of this prestigious text appeared, many things have happened in dermatology, including the death of Donald M. Pillsbury, MD (1902-1980), the original senior author and editor. His distinguished collaborators (Dr Moschella is president-elect of the American Academy of Dermatology; Dr Hurley is the immediate past-president of both the American Board of Dermatology and the American Dermatologic Association) have successfully continued the spirit of the earlier edition while incorporating the important therapeutic advances of the late 1970s and early 1980s— psoralen-ultraviolet A (PUVA), lasers, retinoids, and antifungals. The basic organization has been retained, despite the substitution of many new chapters and the near doubling of the number of contributors (from 43 to 78).
This vast book provides a sea of treasures for those willing to wade through its ponderous surf and dive for the pearls. Dermatologists should keep it handy as a standard office reference,
