Mandatory National Health Service

JAMA. 1993;270(23):2807. doi:10.1001/jama.1993.03510230043022

To the Editor.  —It is easy for the vice president of medicine at Johns Hopkins University to call for mandatory national health service.1 It would be equally easy for those of us who are no longer at risk of being called to concur.I do not know whether such involuntary servitude would be against the letter of the servitude clause of the Constitution. It surely denies its spirit.
