Abstract

Believing as I do that much of this disease is due to ignorance and negligence on the part of nurse or mother, and that the physician is largely to blame for the same, I purpose in these remarks to refer to some of the common mistakes of nurses that have come under my observation, and to speak of the correction of the same. The fatality of this disease, and its importance, the possibility of doing so much towards its prevention, are reasons enough for this paper being read. I think it is within the bounds of truth to say that two-thirds of the cases could be prevented if we had the power of making mothers do what is right, and of overcoming their ridiculous prejudices.
