The author has undertaken to make a list of the medical writers of the world, but owing to the lack of response on the part of those from whom he sought his information he was unable to make it as complete as he would like. It is evident that the list is very incomplete; some of those whose names are omitted are certainly more prominent than many whose names are included in the book. Another difficulty with which the compiler seems to have had to contend was the necessity or arranging the material obtained by him in fourteen different languages. The result is that one of the languages in which the titles are written has suffered unjust usage. Bad as our English spelling is at its best, it is sad to see the condition into which the printer has thrown it in this book. The idea of the book is
