A NEW COMBINATION AGAINST THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION

Abstract

Within the past few days the newspapers of the chief cities of the country have carried large advertisements headed: "Do You Want the 'Doctors' Trust' to be able to Force its Opinions on You?" These advertisements paint in vivid colors—"yellow" predominating—the disaster and general destruction that will follow the formation of a federal department of health. They emanate from, or to be more correct, are signed by, an organization calling itself the "National League for Medical Freedom." In addition to the regular display advertisements, the press agent is supplying matter for the reading pages, and there is every evidence that the propaganda is not lacking financial support. Of course the American Medical Association is the bête noir the "league" seeks to kill; it is the "medical trust" referred to. Members of the Association will be surprised to learn that if a national department of health is created it will result
